Key Notes

  • You might notice that your baby is gradually able to life their head
  • Your baby’s physical movements will also start developing a flow
  • At this age, babies are the most susceptible to sucking their fists

Changes can be hard to notice when they’re happening slowly and over a short period of time. However, babies can start to develop certain capabilities when they’re just 2 months old.

At this age, babies can start achieving amazing developments in their lives.

As a parent, each day for you must be exciting to notice your baby’s milestones. It is something every parent looks forward to.

New parents often have difficulty recognizing baby milestones. There’s no need to worry. Here is everything you need to know about 2 month old baby milestones so you don’t miss any. Let’s get started.

Physical Growth

A child who has lived for 2 months can get pretty big in size during this time. You need to acknowledge how your baby has gotten a little chubbier. This is a physical growth milestone. Other developments regarding your baby could be the growth in height, plus the increase in head size. Here are some physical measurement differences that you might notice in your 2 month old baby:

  • Height increase by 1 or 2 inches
  • Weight increase by 2 till 4 pounds
  • Head circumference increases by 3 or 4 cm

There are other physical changes that a 2 month old baby experiences, however you may not be privy to them. These changes include the body. These milestones can consist of more movements by your baby.

This is one of the major 2 month old baby milestones. Here are some more examples:

  • You might notice that your baby is gradually able to life their head. Try laying your baby on their belly so they can improve their neck muscles.
  • Your baby’s physical movements will also start developing a flow. This means that there will be less jerking of hands and legs, but rather more purposeful movements.
  • At this age, babies are the most susceptible to sucking their fists. This might annoy you, but it is a moment to celebrate because it signifies your baby’s development.

You should not that these milestones are simply a standard. Everyone is unique in their own way and takes their time. Your 2 month old baby will have their own milestones in their own time.

However, whatever their growth may be, make sure you cherish these moments with your little one. After all, they won’t stay this tiny in your arms for so long.

Neural Milestones

Apart from physical growth, babies grow mentally as well. This means they would be experiencing more cognitive growth and would show reactions. Your 2 month old baby should be experiencing growth in their brain that would motivate them to act in rational ways.

This could be as simple as being happy during a happy scenario. Here are some of the neural milestones for your 2 month old baby developments.

  • Happy Reactions – At this point your baby should be smiling. This is the age where babies often react to different surroundings. Hence, there should be large smiles to brighten up your day. Sometimes that’s all you need to get through the day.
  • Recognition – This might seem like a far stretch, however it is true. A 2 month old baby can recognize faces of important people. This would include the parents and people who are constantly around. They would know what your face looks like.
  • Socially Receptive – Many 2 month old babies start being socially receptive at this age. This means that they would be making noises from their mouths to tell you how they feel. This will include cooing or gurgles. Because your baby would be learning how to talk pretty soon, this is the ideal moment to have these developments.

Other Milestones

There are many other 2 month old baby milestones that you might have missed. Let’s cover those too. You should observe that these milestones may occur early or with some delays. Here are some of these.

  • Teething – This is a milestone that is often achieved by 4 month old babies. But there is a chance that your 2 month old can start growing teeth too. After all, it is not impossible.
  • Sleeping – Many 2 month old babies start sleeping a night. This would be the biggest relief for the parents or the guardians as this would mean uninterrupted hours of sleep for them. Getting a baby to sleep is one of the most difficult jobs to do. Therefore, for your 2 month old baby to achieve this milestone is a big feat.

With these milestones, also come some problems when a baby is growing. This means that when your 2 month old is developing certain traits, they might also be at risk.

Specifically, babies could catch colds. This can be known through the measurement of their temperature or through their cough.

Apart from this, 2 month old babies also have metabolic issues. They might be constipated at some point, but also experience diarrhoea.

With these you need to note that these changes might not happen automatically. You need to assist your child with some of these milestones as well.

This assistance could mean that showing your baby some facial expressions when you tell them how you feel. You also need to take care of all the feeding requirements in terms of your baby.

If the 2 month old baby is not eating their formula or drinking their milk well, then it might hinder their growth. This is why you need to ensure that the baby is well fed.

These 2 month old baby developments can help you keep track of your baby’s growth.

Plus, it is effective in observing any anomalies early on in their life. This is an advantage as many issues can be fixed earlier in life.

Other than this, all these developments help you recognize your baby’s growth. This makes you realize that their growth is an achievement.

It helps reassure you that you are doing a good job at parenting. Sometimes, that is all the affirmation you need in life.
